I missed this one while it was installed in San Francisco, alas. “Graced With Light – The Ribbon Project” by Anne Patterson, was an installation within Grace Cathedral featuring multi-coloured satin ribbons hanging from the ceiling, catching and reflecting the already subtle and electric quality of the light within the cathedral.
I think it would have been fun to see how the addition of these, ribbons altered the feel of the cathedral’s nave. They are delicately ephemeral, yet, I imagine they would have a pronounced effect in that space that is already both bold and hush-inducing. Occupying a space of such strong presence while still being transparent while reflecting the light from the edges…
Crafting space is a subtle and varied art. To alter the space like this and then feel the difference would have been fun to experience. Again: alas!
