I am hijacking your thread but for good reason.

I was driving home from work tonight during rush hour. (Here in Edmonton, it is dark by about 5pm). I had just driven over the river and rounded the corner where the 2 ways of traffic are separated by about 40 meters. Our side was gridlocked but for some strange reason, the other side was free of traffic. Then I saw the familiar lights of a police car as it whipped by in the other direction. Then 2, 4 then 8 police cars whipping by. Another blocked an joining road, then another few police cars went by. All with there lights on in the dark, on a totally cleared road that should have a hundred cars rushing to get home. It was surreal, beautiful and kinda unnerving all at the same time. Who were they chasing? It must be quite the chase to have now over 15 police cars having gone by with others stopped blocking any entrances onto the road......Then I saw it. Whipping by far too fast for the speed limit of 50kmph. A Coyote fighting vehicle with its 25mm cannon facing forward and the vehicle commander sitting up out of the hatch. And then one by one, 5 intercity buses all white with the Canadian forces logo on the side dashed by, again, all too fast for the usual speed limit with even more police cars protecting the rear. What I had witnessed was one of the most well orchestrated escorts for about 200 of our fighting men and women that had just gotten back from a tour in Afghanistan...on there way back to see their loved ones at CFB Edmonton.

1 minute later or earlier, I would have missed the entire event. Its one of those moments that will always be ingrained in my memory.

Yeah, it's really shocking and dismaying. I'm not looking forward to the next move... once I know it's coming I'll start pruning our belongings heavily.

Hard to believe we started out back in 1992 (!) -- architecture, the abortive D&D game with Pierre-Charles and the later Champions games, the Trek tradition, the crits, paintball (with Dirk! still have that picture), 3D modelling at 4am, the whole works... }:)
