What I Love: Vol 3
May 4, 2008I love music.
I love that I love so many different genres of music.
I love being moved by music.
I love when I get chills up and down my spine from a piece of music.
I love the human voice used as an instrument.
I love a choir.
I love soundtrack scores.
I love music with complex layering.
I love instrumental pieces, vocal pieces, and much in between.
I love being surprised by music.
I love having all my music on one server for the ultimate 8 month long plus never-repeat shuffle mix
8 months? That’s pretty staggering. How big’s your filestore?
I’ve just set up a half-terabyte RAID-1 for just this purpose, but I could barely go 4 weeks, let alone 8 months.
Have had a lot of success using a Squeezebox, btw. Nice toy.
Right now it’s -checks- 32,752,712 kb in size… and not all of that is in my playlist so there’s 7047 songs in my playlist. Not quite the same half-TB — I’m guessing your playlist gets much heavier use. Mine only gets play if I’m home which cuts out a lot of time (and even then sometimes I listen to albums on their own).
Half-TB in 4 weeks, now _that’s_ some serious listening. }
How many songs is that?
Well, I can pick 3 of those soundtracks for you which we both enjoyed at the same time… o’so long ago
StarTrek VI (blasting that one “Spock” part through my speakers as it filled the entire home
Dragon - Which is directly linked to our last email “conversation”
And Trois cCuleurs: Bleu which we first heard in Montreal with PCB on our trip to the US….and if you do not agree, I will have to take care of you…”Without Remorse”!!!
;P
Mmm, yeah, I remember the day we learned what the ductwork in your house could do to the first part of the “Assassination” track. Who knew? ( “Are you kidding?” ) What did we do, listen to it about 6 times in a row like that?
Forever those three will be classics. As will that line… who knew book titles would be so enduring? -g-
Needless to say, the RAID isn’t nearly full yet. It’s a full “media” share, of which 92gb is mp3’s.
I’m toying with the idea of going lossless. I need to rerip most of the collection anyway, some of it is 7 or 8 years old and ripped at a time when I had to make some space sacrifices. (Though I have my limits… the tightest come in at about 160kbps variable.)
I like the idea of not needing to think about re-ripping the CDs ever again. They get pretty abused in the car.
Heh, yeah, CDs do tend to get abused in the car. 92gb, that’s respectable, a good collection you got there.
